The Lamb Center (TLC) is a daytime drop-in shelter for individuals experiencing homelessness in Fairfax, VA. It provides various services without cost to its guests, including breakfast, lunch, showers, laundry service, Bible study, case management, AA meetings, a nurse practitioner clinic, a dental clinic, and much more. TLC is a Christian ecumenical community of faith that partners with local churches, public agencies, and organizations passionate about serving homeless individuals.

About the Workforce Development Program (WDP)

The Lamb Center’s Workforce Development Program provides work-readiness training for individuals with barriers to employment. The program offers a supportive work environment for individuals that meets them where they are and seeks to empower them to reach their greatest employment potential. We partner with the City of Fairfax and Fairfax County to provide green job skills maintaining city parks and public spaces. Skilling workers to excel in the jobs of today and tomorrow will create opportunities for our guests and improve our community. The city, the county, and our guests all benefit from this life-changing program. For some workers, the program serves as a stepping stone to full-time private sector employment; for all involved, it offers the dignity and sense of purpose that comes with earning a paycheck.

About the Workforce Development Field Supervisor Position

The Workforce Development Field Supervisor is a vital member of the Workforce Development team. Responsibilities include providing transportation and leadership to worksite crews, supporting participant orientation and program activities, and contributing to broader workforce program operations. This is a part-time, non-exempt position of approximately 25-28 hours per week. And serves under the direction of the Workforce Development Program Coordinator. The candidate must be able to operate a truck and/or passenger van.

Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency is strongly valued in this role. Experience with individuals experiencing homelessness is a plus. This person must fully support the mission, vision, and values of the Lamb Center and be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Roles and Responsibilities

Field Operations & Worksite Supervision

  • Ensure that all workforce operations run smoothly and that best practices are followed
  • Lead by example by working alongside participants while checking on crews and individuals to ensure work is performed with excellence and efficiency
  • Reinforce program expectations and professional workplace behavior on the worksite
  • Promote and maintain a safe work environment by adhering to program and organizational safety standards, ensuring participants are properly equipped and using required personal protective equipment (PPE), continuously assessing worksite conditions for potential hazards, and using sound judgment to address or report safety concerns and emerging risks.
  • De-escalate situations in the field calmly and effectively
  • Drive and maintain the van, including safe transit to and from worksites, refueling, and general maintenance
  • Check voicemail for call outs and follow up on crew absences

Participant Orientation & Onboarding

  • Co-lead orientation for new workforce participants, including introduction to worksite expectations, safety protocols, gear, and program norms
  • Ensure new participants understand the daily evaluation process and what is expected of them from day one
  • Support a welcoming and encouraging first-day experience for new participants
  • Coordinate with the Workforce Development Program Coordinator on participant readiness and any onboarding concerns

Soft Skill Development & Participant Support

  • Intentionally support participant growth in identified soft skill areas — including reliability, communication, teamwork, and professionalism — through daily worksite interactions and modeling
  • Conduct brief daily check-ins with participants, offering encouragement, feedback, and motivation
  • Complete daily participant evaluation forms accurately and in a timely manner, using observable behaviors to inform scores
  • Nominate and collaboratively select the worker of the week
  • Communicate participant observations and concerns to the Workforce Development Program Coordinator on a regular basis and promptly when urgent
  • Maintain awareness of participant needs and connect participants to the coordinator or their case manager when concerns arise that are beyond the scope of the worksite
  • Support effective communication with participants from diverse backgrounds, utilizing bilingual Spanish-language skills when available and coordinating interpretation or translation resources as needed.
  • Support the successful delivery of the OSHA/Certified for Success certification program by assisting with participant enrollment, scheduling, progress tracking, communications, and certification completion activities in collaboration with program staff.

Inventory, Supplies, Documentation, and Other Duties

  • Oversee inventory of tools and PPE to ensure workers are equipped to safely carry out contract activities
  • Manage personal protective equipment (PPE) and hydration for workers, including ensuring workers are supplied with work boots, vests, and gloves each shift and transporting daily supplies
  • Communicate with city and county partners about tools and supplies needed for worksites
  • Prepare and load tools and supplies prior to each workday
  • Complete project work logs with photos and submit to county or city as required
  • Utilize GIS field mapping tools for worksite documentation and reporting as needed
  • Support Operations in maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment
  • Occasional Saturday coverage in TLC operations
  • Complete other tasks and duties as assigned and necessary to carry out the program

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required; must be able to safely operate a transport van and/or truck
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Must be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Experience working with people experiencing homelessness is preferred
  • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency strongly preferred; ability to effectively communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed care practices and conflict resolution
  • Current MANDT and CPR/First Aid certifications (or willingness to obtain)
  • Basic computer and office skills; ability to complete digital forms and documentation
  • Ability to learn and use program systems including GIS as needed
  • Commitment to teamwork and collaboration with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Must be lawfully eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship
  • Must fully support the mission, vision, and values of The Lamb Center

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Performance of the essential functions of this job will routinely include the following physical demands:

  • Driving a van with 12 or more passengers.

  • Walking and kneeling on uneven or steep surfaces

  • Possible contact with individuals in crisis who may not be attentive to basic personal hygiene, health, and safety practices
  • Regular work is performed outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and environments, including wooded areas, parks, trails, and public spaces. Employees and participants may encounter uneven terrain, native and invasive vegetation (including poison ivy), insects, ticks, and other wildlife.
  • Work may involve exposure to potentially hazardous materials or objects encountered in public spaces, including broken glass, metal debris, discarded needles, and other sharps. Appropriate safety procedures and personal protective equipment must be followed.
  • The position requires maintaining a visible and engaged presence with program participants throughout the workday and may involve providing supervision, support, or assistance during meal and break periods.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $19.00 – $22.00 per hour
